Position Summary:

St. Joseph Catholic School is seeking a dedicated Physical Education Teacher who will also serve as our Athletic Director . This dual-role professional will provide high-quality PE instruction for students in Pre-K through 8th grade and will lead a dynamic, values-based after-school sports program for grades 5–8 .

The ideal candidate will inspire a love for physical activity and teamwork while instilling Gospel-centered values and promoting the Catholic vision of virtue, sportsmanship, and stewardship of the body .

Key Responsibilities:
Physical Education (Grades PK–8):
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate PE lessons that engage diverse learners and promote lifelong healthy habits.

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and faith-centered environment where all students can grow in confidence, skill, and character.

  • Teach virtues such as perseverance, respect, humility, and self-discipline through physical activity, in alignment with Catholic teachings .

  • Adjust instruction for various grade levels and collaborate with teachers and staff to support whole-child formation .

  • Manage gym and outdoor spaces with flexibility, ensuring readiness for both instruction and school-wide liturgies or events.

  • Actively participate in school liturgies, faculty meetings, retreats, and spiritual formation opportunities as part of our faithful Catholic faculty.

Athletic Director (Grades 5–8):
  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of our school’s athletic program as a means of forming virtuous leaders and disciples through sport.

  • Ensure all athletic activities reflect our Catholic mission and support the spiritual, social, and physical development of student-athletes.

  • Recruit, train, and support coaches who will model Christ-like behavior and uphold safe, respectful practices.

  • Communicate regularly with the Principal about team progress, student needs, and scheduling.

  • Collaborate with the Parish Event Coordinators, Maintenance Director, Pastor, and Principal to coordinate gym and field use.

  • Oversee scheduling, uniform/equipment inventory, and adherence to Diocese and CYO policies.

  • Foster positive, consistent communication with parents, emphasizing school spirit, respectful conduct, and Christian character.

Qualifications:
  • Practicing Catholic preferred; all applicants must support the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (preferred).

  • Valid Indiana teaching license or eligibility for licensure.

  • Prior experience in PK–8 education and school athletics (preferred).

  • Experience coaching and leading youth sports programs (CYO or similar) is a significant asset.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable.

  • Strong classroom and behavior management skills with a joyful, faith-based approach.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Enthusiastic commitment to Catholic education, spiritual formation, and student mentorship.
