Position Summary: The Economic Research Associate, Labor Markets will join the Economy, Strategy & Finance center of The Conference Board, contributing to the production of industry-recognized economic indices and surveys, briefings with C-Suite business leaders, and innovative thematic research on the global economy. The ideal Economic Research Associate, Labor Markets candidate has a background with complex data wrangling and coding; a strong interest in labor markets; and, preferably, has demonstrated experience working with US economic data (e.g. BLS, Census, BEA). The role will focus on production and expansion of our two primary labor market products: the Help Wanted OnLine program, The Conference Board's proprietary database of unique job postings; and the Employment Trends Index, a model forecasting labor market turning points. The Senior Economics Research Associate will also support research of the US labor markets team, helping to develop key data points, insights, and data visualizations on topics that include: Reactions to labor market data releases, AI's workforce impact, immigration and demographics, and trends in skills demand. Responsibilities: Executes monthly production of two proprietary indices published by The Conference Board - Help Wanted OnLine and the Employment Trends Index, in a timely manner meeting all deadlines. Troubleshoots data issues, validates data sources, and creates actionable plans for improvements to production processes. Conducts labor market research within the Labor Markets team, creating of initial insights, data analysis, and visualizations on topics relevant to The Conference Board's membership. Communicates insights to Senior Economists, presenting a cohesive narrative through data sources, methodology, and visualizations. Supports the overall Economics Program through support of wider research projects, rapid response deliverables, monthly forecasting, and presentation preparation. Administers the Labor Markets website, including uploading content, removing content, and providing suggestions for improvement. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's or working towards a Master's in a quantitative field including economics, data science, or related field. Must have experience using R to wrangle complex economic datasets. Experience with statistical languages Python, SQL, and other programming languages preferred. Must have experience in data visualization (e.g. R, Excel, Tableau). Experience working with economic data (e.g. BLS, BEA, Census, IPUMS). Candidate should be detail-oriented; a team and independent worker able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines. Innovative and able to develop new project ideas. Research and/or work experience preferred.
