DESCRIPTION

The Rady School of Management provides business education through its degree programming (PhD and four Masters) undergraduate education, and executive business programs. The staff who work at the Rady School have created a highly participatory, high energy, upbeat environment where providing excellent customer service to our students, faculty and fellow staff is a priority.

This Associate Director of Career Coaching is located at the Rady School of Management Career Management Center focusing on the needs of graduate students.

This position coaches students/alumni on a full range of career and professional development opportunities, including individual or group coaching, career planning, setting career goals, decision-making, and improving career capabilities. This position provides a holistic approach to student/alumni career coaching (including customized services for specific populations such as Masters programs in Finance, Business Analytics, Professional Accountancy, and MBA students). The focus of this position is career coaching and career development, including creating and facilitating workshops and presentations.

The position also develops and sustains relationships with current or potential employers and other organizations to build lasting relationships while augmenting recruiting efforts and aligning career opportunities.

The Associate Director will work closely with Rady Career Management Center Senior Associate Directors and the Executive Director to develop scalable programs and interventions that engage students in career design, experiential learning, alumni and employer connections, and transferable skill/core competency development. The Associate Director develops a "hub" of connections as an informed connector that empowers students and alumni.

The position partners with academic program managers to create strategies to reach employment goals, provides direct group and individual career coaching, independently creates and delivers new programming content based on industry/employment trends and meticulously collects data on employment outcomes.

The Associate Director promotes student engagement by collaborating with Rady academic executive directors and academic departments, Rady graduate student affairs and student organizations/clubs, Rady School admissions & recruiters, and other UCSD and UC career communities to ensure graduate students meet career goals.

This position will be a part of the UAW union moving forward.

  • This position will have a hybrid/remote schedule with 3 days each week in the office,and 2 days worked from home. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required due to panel discussions, special career events, employer visits, etc. Must be willing and able to travel to off-site employers (rare).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Career coaching experience. Extensive experience advising and coaching on a full spectrum of career and professional development opportunities, including individual or group advising / coaching, career planning, setting career goals, decision-making, and networking.

  • Significant experience creating and leading career-related events and programming, ie outreach, mentorship programs, treks/site visits, panel discussion participation, career exploration info sessions, alumni speaker series, industry highlight events, etc.

  • Comprehensive experience making engaging presentations to large and small groups, leading discussions, responding to questions from a sophisticated audience. Experience setting up Zoom discussion rooms, monitoring chats.

  • Experience identifying and discussing employer hiring needs. Experience promoting the employment potential, academic accomplishment, and work histories of clients/students.

  • Experience evaluating student/employer outreach activities based on employment metrics, student/employer participation outcomes, industry representation.

  • Experience collecting and entering data into online systems; experience tracking outreach activities related to outcome measures (participation, employment). Experience collecting data on employment outcomes.

  • Familiarity with the student life cycle. Experience partnering with faculty, academic departments, academic advisors, student organizations/clubs, admissions & recruiters, and across organizations with other career professionals to promote graduate student engagement with self-starting their career journey.

  • Time management skills. Event and project planning skills. Hands-on logistics experience related to events, career/employer treks, projects.

  • Rapport-building skills. Advising skills. Collaboration skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field and a minimum of 3 years of work related to student advising/counseling activities in an academic setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in related field.

  • Membership and participation in national professional organizations for career professionals such as NACE, CSEA, and/or SHRM and/or local professional recruiting groups.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
